Princess' book is for sale at lulu.com The name of the book is Princess and The Caterfly. It includes about her kidneys being damaged by commercial dog food back in 2007. That is why I did this page. I wrote the book from Princess' point of view of being a Service Dog. She is blind also because of the tainted dog food. Please browse this page and check out where the links take you. They are very informative. Sit Stay is where I purchased her Service Animal supplies and Life Jacket for going on our sailboat. I purchased six interesting dog books from this gal, Michele Welton. Be sure to let her know where you found her information - moonlightflower.org on one of Princess's pages. She too has extreme comments to make about so called commercial pet foods. FYI: For Service Animal Vests there are two places to purchase them that I have used. Sit Stay sells the solid fabric vests. You must purchase the patches separate. Pet Joy Online sells Service Animal vests however they also have the vests with mesh for hotter climates. That is what Princess wears now. For the Wire Dog Vests click on the Pet Joy Online link below. Pet Joy Online If you want to know more about Service Animals and the Federal Law, go to this ADA Government website: SERVICE ANIMALS IN PLACES OF BUSINESS You would do well to educate yourself to the rights of Service Animals whether you own a place of business or not because chances are you frequent places of business. Guide Dogs for the blind or sight impaired are not the only kind of Service Animal. If you know somebody who would like to acquire a Service Animal, visit this website: The Delta Society More and more places are training Service Animals. If you are discriminated against and/or publicly humiliated because of your Service Animal, call the United States Department of Justice immediately. Their Toll Free Number is 1-800-514-0301 (voice) or 1-800-514-0383 (TDD) Ask for the section that deals with service animals and the violation of laws regarding them. Violations of the ADA Law can give you a legal right to sue. It is illegal for someone to ask you to explain your handicap or reason for the use of the service animal. Simply ask them if they would care to share their medical history with you. IT IS ILLEGAL SO DON'T ASK. Update: as of February 6, 2011 Princess is in doggie heaven. I will not change the next paragraph. It will stand as is in memory of Princess. Princess is bathed at least twice a month and is maintained with her vaccinations and boosters, oral flea tablets as well as Frontline during the summer months, heart worm and worm tablets on a monthly basis. Her teeth are cleaned by her veterinarian on a regular basis as well as I brush her teeth too. Most people don't even know she is around when she rides on my scooter. I trained Princess myself. A professional trainer can not train an animal to be a seizure alert dog 100%. The latest data on that is 80%. The animal has to have a special bond with its owner to recognize the chemical and personality changes in their owner. As of Valentine's Day 2007, Princess is 13 years of age. She was only a puppy when I was first diagnosed with petit mal seizures. The grand mal seizures came on when she was only five months old. She pretty well knows my bodily changes, my aura, and when I am hurting for other reasons and need rest. For a generic Service Animal Form click here. Or click here for the pdf version to print. You will need Adobe Acrobat to download the pdf version. Your physician, not your veterinarian, must sign the form. However, legally it is not a necessity. But it sure helps when you are out in public and you meet people who are ignorant to the ADA Federal Law. You may be interested in the laws pertaining to injuring a service animal. For the state of Texas, go here. Please don't forget to come back and Sit and Stay awhile.
